This debut album came first out in `89 and is now re-released in a re-mastered version. The original sound must have been already great, because this re-master has a perfect Thrash sound..! It`s like some witch has merged together all the ingredients for an old-school sound back in `89 and gave it a `08 finish... All instruments come very clear + old-schoolish rough, with a very good mix in loudness. Only the vocals are sometimes a little bit to much up front for my taste. My first thought, while thinking about the sound, was "Geez, Exodus would have loved to have this sound on BBB..". Now about the music - Wicca play some typical 80s Thrash on here - very much in the veins of Bay Area heroes like Exodus or Forbidden, with some Slayer bits. Some fine Speed Metal influences are also shining through here and there - Agent Steel and Iron Angel come to my mind at some points. Teuto-Thrash influences are very rare, only non-typical german bands like Exumer could be compared. All in all they brew a unique "Wicca-style" out of this ingredients... It is no wonder, by the way, that this album sounds like it has been witched - "Wicca" is a pagan religion, that is very much about witches... The songs are all of great variety - from pumping mid-tempo Thrashers to high-end Speed tracks. Most songs come along with fine breaks, that make the music even more enjoyable. The musical skills are far beyond all question - a very tight rhythm section with an animal on bass, great power- and melodical riffing and harsh vocals, that fit like hell to this balls-out Thrash Metal..! Now this kick-ass Thrash album came out, when many german bands played on their career peak IMO - bands from Kreator over Paradox to Accu§er made their best albums around `89 - and Wicca can easily stand the competition with "Splended Deed" - a masterpiece of 80s Thrash Metal, that also stood the test of time! 9/10
